Boer Goats

The first five goats were purchased in 2014 with another four purchased in 2015, and a steep learning curve commenced.

We have DNA results on all our breeding animals with parentage confirmed wherever possible.

My goals in breeding may be a little different to others. I do not want to follow trend and fashion. I love taking animals to shows, to show the world what we are doing, and make connections. I love learning from judges and developing a deeper understanding of my animals strengths and weaknesses. And please, don't get me wrong, the validation of having a judge like my animal is deeply gratifying. But whether or not we place well under a judge, at the end of the show, I will continue to breed for what I want to look at out in the paddock.

I have had my animals described as old-fashioned. I describe my animals as strong and athletic. In my evaluations I am looking for animals who are tall and long-bodied, have a strong topline and good rump, who have a deep body and chest with a flat chest floor, good spring of rib, and good angulation through the hock and stifle. (I don't like looking at posty legs and cow-hocks.) We live on a mountain and they have to go up and down a lot.

I expect animals to gain at least 0.5 lbs/day without anything more than forage, basic grain, minerals and high quality hay.

I breed for a kind and gentle temperament, high fertility, strong maternal instincts and as strong a mammary system as I can get. Many of my goats go back to a Nubian doe generations ago.

Coming from Florida we intimately understand the battle with parasites and pneumonia. We follow strict biosecurity protocols and follow best practices in parasite management. But my belief is that the best animals must have an inate ability to stay healthy and parasite free. We cull animals from our herd who do not make the cut. We do not sell those animals to others. They are put in the ground or the freezer.

It is our goal to constantly improve and help others improve, with animals who are healthy and strong.
